There is something extra special about photographing a baby when they are around two weeks old — still so sleepy, curly, and brand new to the world. Miss Violet came into my Connecticut newborn studio at the end of December for her Classic Collection newborn session, and her session turned into one of those days that reminds me why I love what I do so much.

Having Violet in the studio was such a bright spot — warm tones, soft light, and a brand new setup that felt both timeless and fresh.
A Lifestyle-Inspired Newborn Session
When Violet’s mom first reached out, she shared something a little different than what most parents request. She told me she wanted the parent images to feel more “lifestyle” rather than traditionally posed. While I always guide parents gently during newborn sessions, this gave me the opportunity to create an entirely new setup that leaned into connection, movement, and natural interaction.
I absolutely loved designing this space.

Instead of structured poses, we focused on:
- Soft embraces
- Natural hand placement
- Looking at Violet instead of the camera
- Letting moments unfold organically
The result was a collection of images that felt emotional, relaxed, and real, while still maintaining the clean, polished look my studio is known for.
Soft Neutrals: Creams & Peaches & Soft Pinks
Violet’s mom chose a beautiful color palette of creams, peaches, and soft pinks, which worked perfectly for a winter newborn session. These soft, neutral tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus right where it belongs — on baby.

Creams, peaches, and soft pinks are always a favorite in my studio because they:
- Complement all skin tones
- Create a warm, timeless feel
- Work beautifully for wall art and albums
Paired with the lifestyle-inspired setup, these colors brought such a gentle, cozy feel to Violet’s session.

A New Studio Setup (Inspired by Violet)
This session ended up inspiring more than just beautiful images.
I loved this lifestyle-inspired setup so much that after Violet’s session, I decided to invest in a brand new backdrop inspired by this look. While Violet’s images feature the original setup created specifically for her session, I wanted to be able to offer this same soft, connected, lifestyle feel consistently throughout the year.

I now have a new permanent backdrop in the studio that allows me to recreate this look for future newborn sessions. I’m sharing a sample setup photo here so you can see the style and feel — and I’m so excited to use this space for many upcoming families.
This option is perfect for parents who:
- Love natural, connected imagery
- Want something softer and more lifestyle-inspired
- Prefer relaxed moments over heavily posed images
Of course, this setup can still be paired with classic newborn poses and wrapped images — giving families the best of both worlds.

Do You Love the Lifestyle Look?
I’d love to hear from you — do you love the lifestyle look as much as I do?
If this style speaks to you, just let me know when you inquire. I’m always happy to customize your newborn session so it feels like you.
