Welcoming a new baby into the world is an incredible milestone, and a newborn photography session with Christy Mitchell Photography located in Wallingford, Connecticut, is the perfect way to capture those precious early days. Whether this is your first newborn session or you’re looking for a recap, here’s what to expect before, during, and after a newborn photoshoot. Introducing Newborn Aidan, who came into the studio recently for his newborn session. Mom selected Blues, grays and baseball themes.

Before the Session: Planning & Preparation
1. Scheduling Your Session
Newborn sessions are typically scheduled within the first 7-16 days after birth when babies are still sleepy and easy to pose. If you’re expecting, it’s best to book your session during your second or third trimester to secure a spot.
2. Preparing Your Baby

During the Session: Capturing the Moments

1. Setting the Scene
Newborn sessions take place in a my warm and cozy home studio to keep your little one comfortable. I use gentle lighting and soft backgrounds to create dreamy, natural images.
2. Posing & Safety First
Safety is always the top priority! Every pose is done with your baby’s comfort in mind, and I never force a pose if your baby is unsettled. I have been trained in newborn safety and throughout the year invest in workshops and classes to stay up to date on newborn poses.

3. Parent & Sibling Photos
In addition to solo newborn shots, I’ll capture parent and family moments to document the love and connection within your family. Nothing is sweeter than a newborn baby, except that newborn baby with their new sibling (s) and parents.

4. Patience is Key
Newborns can be unpredictable! I allow plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and diaper changes to ensure a stress-free experience.
After the Session: Editing & Delivery
1. Image Selection & Editing
After the session, I select the best images and upload them into a proof gallery. From there you select your images. I offer three newborn session collections, (Petite, Classic & Signature with choice of digitals)
2. Sneak Peeks & Gallery Delivery
You can expect a sneak peek within a few days, and the full gallery is typically ready within 2-3 weeks, after you have made your proof selections. Your images will be available for download, with options for prints and albums.

3. Creating Lasting Memories
Consider printing your favorite images for albums, wall art, or keepsakes. These photos will be cherished for years to come!
